I've been holding back on buying a new monitor for years now. Probable because I paid almost a thousand for my 21" CRT from Viewsonic a decade ago I guess I just felt too much lingering buyers remorse to discard it. It's still a fairly decent monitor but CRT's are notoriously bad for the eye's and after a decade I was starting to notice some computer vision syndrome as my eyes would burn and water after a few hours. Also it's really hard to spend money on stuff you know is going to be twice...

"Republican Party officials say they will try next month to pass a resolution accusing President Bush and congressional Republican leaders of embracing "socialism," underscoring deep dissension within the party at the end of Mr. Bush's administration. Those pushing the resolution, which will come before the Republican National Committee at its January meeting, say elected leaders need to be reminded of core principles. They said the RNC must take the dramatic step of wading into policy ...

The invasion of the buzzards in south Florida is in full swing. My girlfriend and I took a drive out to the Everglades today and even amongst all that beauty they somehow they managed to steal the show. They're like some prehistoric undertakers surveying for souls, bringing with them a reminder that the business of death is alive and well. It's odd how such an ugly creature with such macabre intentions can possess such a surre...

December 10, 2033 The following is a explanation of the events and motivations that led to our company’s latest advances in virtual reality and its implications. For the last two decades much of our resources were focused on the meticulous construction of virtual worlds and then adapting them to the available technology. The focus of our company and a passion of mine ever since I played my first game, has always been to create the most immersive experience possible. ...

I’ve been trying to justify buying one of these high power laser pointers. I’ve hovered over the checkout button several times now unable to pull the trigger. Truth is I go through this struggle with my inner child often. I have a wide range of interest so there’s an endless list of toys that I could make full use of. I’m a capably person and I quickly outgrow less capable toys when exploring my interest so if I decide to go down a road I know it’s going to hurt financially. I need to be very pi...

The WWT beta arrived last month in case you missed it. I've been playing with it a little and while geared for younger minds it is still very informative and offers a unique perspective not possible through any other medium. The beta seem to work find and content is growing quickly, especially the guided tours. Kudos to Microsoft they did a wonderful job.

Life on the web means a whole bunch of user names. As soon as you submit a UN you begin to realize just how many people there are on the web when you have to add numbers to what you thought was very unique. I've registered a UN with at least three dozen forums but only actually use maybe half a dozen. You never know witch ones your going to be using frequently so most of time I don't think my choices through. Back in 1994 I registered with a form at MetaCreations for discussing their program Bry...

My idea is to give every individual with a drivers license a gas card, this is not a credit card but a card that keeps track of how much gas you use and must be swiped pre-purchase. This plan would only apply to personal usage. You allow everyone to purchase say 25 gallons a week at say 30% off the market price. if you exceed 25 gals you pay full market price up to 50, plus you're back charged the 30% for the first 25 gals. If you must use more than 50 a week you pay market for the 50 then ...

Modern generation 4 pebble bed reactors produce almost no waste, and the waste they do produce is incased in graphite witch doesn't break down even in seawater for a million years. Witch is longer than the activity of plutonium. It is virtually impossible for a Pebble bed modular reactors, or PBMR to have a meltdown or leak enough radiation to require any onsite cleanup, even if there was a catastrophic failure and nothing was done, they would shut down on their own without the need for bac...
